The burger meat at Ground is guaranteed to come from grass-fed beef, organic chicken or Welsh lamb &, at 7oz, the patties are generously sized. The choice ranges from the classic cheese to swordfish steak (with roasted vegetables & pesto mayo) via Greek-style lamb (with feta cheese, sour cream & pine nuts). Undoubtedly the first of an intended chain, Ground has done its homework & priced itself just below the local Gourmet Burger Kitchen & made itself slightly more agreeable. A decent, if concise, wine list & proper table service make diners more inclined to linger for something from the short list of puds after their meat fix: organic ice-cream, chocolate brownies, or apple pie, say. Smart & sophisticated it ain’t, but it’s well suited for a quick bite with friends or a grief-free weekend family lunch (the burgers have no added salt or seasoning & there’s plenty of room for buggies).
