Renowned pastry chef Philippe Conticini’s fantastical patisseries are a huge hit in Paris, and he has now brought his fancy boutique concept to London. Following the success of La Pâtisserie des Rêves in Marylebone, the Kensington spin-off offers more of the same – so punters can expect treats aplenty in this self-proclaimed ‘pastry shop of dreams’: cakes and pastries galore, wondrous carousel displays of futuristic creations lurking under bell jars, clean white surfaces and flashes of bright pink. Sweet delights range from traditional huge brioches, tarts and fabulous gateaux to financiers, madeleines, Paris-Brest and Saint Honoré – plus a novel selection of ice creams and nostalgic puddings. The ‘Friends’ appendage is a reference to a new range of hot and cold savoury dishes that are intended to add some extra oomph to the menu.
