Located at the front of the refurbished Hotel Café Royal, this calming café and takeaway has been fashioned from golden Sienna marble, with gorgeous displays of cakes, patisserie and chocolates catching the eye. Head pastry chef Andrew Blas learned his trade with the likes of Raymond Blanc and brings plenty of creative flair to proceedings – don’t miss his signature ‘circle noir’ chocolate torte filled with fennel, liquorice and apple jam. Breakfast collations (fruits, cereals, eggs, buns etc) give way to an all-day roster of sweet and savoury treats ranging from stirred orange gugelhupf, glazed heritage carrot cake, chocolate éclairs and macarons to sandwiches (toasted or otherwise), smoked salmon with Melba toast, beef carpaccio and assorted salads. Pre-theatre menus (5-7pm) offer three savoury plates for upwards of £30. To drink, expect coffees, juices and nine versions of hot chocolate.
