La Cigale Récamier in Paris is renowned as the home of the soufflé, a shrine to this wonder of gastronomy that’s famed for serving the lightest in the French capital (‘even Gigi and her creator Colette would feel right at home’, observed one reviewer). Now La Cigale’s owners, the Idoux family, are planning to launch a restaurant in London, with a menu devised by the daughter of the house Estelle. The French original has always been famous for the sheer range of its savoury and sweet soufflés, and the new venture promises palate-ticklers such as ‘boeuf et champignons’ or ‘coquilles St Jacques et fine herbes’. The Paris restaurant has hosted luminaries ranging from actress Catherine Deneuve to Michelle Obama – and it seems likely that Beauchamp Place will also become a celeb magnet.
