Look for an unremarkable door next to a caff , head down a lurid corridor that screams ‘Chinese laundry', and enter a captivating, kooky den seemingly furnished by Steptoe & Son. Despite daft names such as ‘bear with me honey’, the jokiness doesn’t affect house signature drinks at around £11. Ambitious pricing? Kentish Town isn’t Kensington, but fancies such as get me a bourbon, I’m hungry (toasted pistachio-infused bourbon, Cherry Heering, vermouth and chocolate bitters) or friar’s luck (home-spiced rum, Benedictine, yellow Chartreuse, burnt orange and frankincense) all come with snacks – a toffee apple and salted chocolate caramels, for example. Classic cocktails start at a more amenable £6.50, and there are kooky vaults if you fancy fooling around with your (close) mates. With Shebeen located in the adjacent basement, this patch of Kentish Town is now somewhere rather special.
