Elton John and Paul McCartney are among the pictured stars staring down from the walls of this modern Italian eatery – although the name Verdi seems to reference the ‘green’ tones in the decor, rather than the famous opera composer. The venue curves around the side of the Albert Hall, with tall tables for drinks and more informal dining at one end, plus banquettes for a proper sit-down job at the other. Order a refreshing Lake Garda (gin, elderflower, lemon and tonic) from the short, well-considered cocktail menu before tackling one of the familiar pizzas or pasta dishes – wild boar cannelloni is dense, cheesy and filling. Fish is also a good bet, from fresh grilled sardines to light, expertly cooked sea bream. And if you’re heading to a show, don’t leave without a taste of creamy gelato.
