Fish-loving Fitzrovians have taken the Bonnie Gull Seafood Shack under their wing, and the eatery’s owners have now launched a more ambitious venture in the old Bincho site on foodie Exmouth Market. Expect an informal vibe conjuring up the kitsch, fun-loving delights of a 1960s seaside café, with menus built around the seasons and the day’s catch. Highlights include a selection of ‘shells’ and ‘rolls’ loaded with sustainable British seafood, from oysters, smoked mussels and langoustines ‘on newspaper’ to fish fingers and lobster. Otherwise, take a nostalgia trip with ‘mum’s pilchards’ on sourdough toast or get messy by smashing your own 1kg cock crab (with some flame-grilled brown meat), before rounding off with a homemade Mr Whippy ice cream. The drinks list spans cocktails, beers and wines, and punters can drop by for takeaways too.
