This strategically located café, bar and DJ late lounge comes courtesy of the boys from The Brickhouse (late of Brick Lane). Butch brickwork and toffee-toned leather furniture, warm woods, recycled materials and an Edwardian canteen-style dining area at the back make the best of a potentially sterile space, while a laid-back all-weather pavement terrace is an added draw. Perch at the sit-up island zinc bar and order classic cocktails such as a dry or espresso martini, Singapore sling, raspberry mojito and negroni, veer towards bottles of Picpoul and Pinot or sup Whitstable Bay Blonde from a line-up of five draught ales. Bar food and full Anglo-European menus offer rarebits, charcuterie boards, bacon-wrapped scallops, wild mushroom blinis, club sandwiches, steaks, roasted duck with celeriac rémoulade, pasta and bad-boy puds at pub prices. A three-course early-evening menu (£14.95) helps catch the post-office crowd.
