Bare brick walls, natural woods, baroque flourishes and utilitarian furniture suggesting a school hall circa T Rex – welcome to N16’s latest bar (formerly the home of Babblejar). ‘Stokey breakfasts fit for a king’ (and berry granola for a queen) are available every day, while the weekend also sees the appearance of brunch items, wraps and burgers. The likes of braised pork belly, sea bass, steaks, Tex-Mex staples and English puds are available in the evening. To drink, workaday wines, big-brand draught brews and more rewarding bottled beers such as Little Creatures and Meantime are on hand if you don’t fancy one of the retro cocktails: Cuba libra, Long Island ice tea, piña colada, white Russian and frozen margaritas were popular back in Mark Bolan’s day – although they might seem a tad Twentieth Century Boy now.
