A neat, nifty outfit combining a traditional fishmonger’s with an on-trend seafood bar, Prawn on the Lawn was dreamed up by Rick Toogood – a veteran of Mitch Tonks’ Fishworks chain who decided to go it alone. Occupying what was Canonbury Butchers, this place keeps it simple with slate floors, tiles, stools by the counter and a big oak barrel in the middle of the room if you fancy standing. It can only serve cold food at the moment, so check the backboard to see what’s on offer – perhaps Brixham oysters with a dollop of crème fraîche, a whole picked crab with soda bread, smoked salmon, scallop ceviche with a shot of Hendrick’s gin or a splendid platter of fruits de mer for sharing. Wines are thoughtfully chosen and the bloody Marys are ace, by all accounts.
