Show up early to bag an outdoor table at this smart glass-walled bar on the 12th floor of the DoubleTree by Hilton, because they don’t take reservations for the terraces – famed for their brilliant close-up views of the Tower of London and Tower Bridge. You pay for it, of course: bottled beers weigh in at £6, while £11.50 will secure a cocktail – perhaps sky at night (Bombay sapphire, Hayman’s sloe gin, blackberries, kiwi, elderflower cordial, and pomegranate juice). There’s also a 12.5 per cent service charge – not that it seems to spoil anyone’s fun. Nourishment comes in the form of small plates, salads and sharing boards, from spiced lamb sliders and char-grilled poussin to serrano ham platters and iced cheesecake lollipops. A Caribbean-themed ‘rum shack’ makes the most of its Cinderella setting on the more inland of the two terraces.
