Donald Russell steaks, British charcuterie and aged cocktails are the big selling points at Silk & Grain – a two-tiered restaurant and bar that’s tailor-made for City workers looking for some playtime. Head upstairs to the laid-back dining room for a meat-fest from the Josper grill – dry-aged rumps, sirloins, porterhouse etc with a choice of four kinds of chips, an assortment of classic sauces and various flavoured butters (leather-aged whisky, anyone?). Otherwise plump for, say, whole lemon sole with garlic and caper butter or honey-glazed rack of lamb. To start, consider some Maldon oysters, a plate of Trealy Farm charcuterie or Isle of Man ‘queenie’ scallops with pea purée and smoked bacon; to finish, try peach and almond tart or gooey chocolate brownie with pistachio ice cream. Meanwhile, it’s all about cocktails (aged, conditioned or otherwise) at the ground-floor bar.
