Square Meal Review of Sushisamba ?

Set on the top floors of the Heron Tower, Latin/Japanese hybrid Sushisamba offers staggering views of Lilliputian London below – complete with a splash of Las Vegas glitz. Live the high life at its alfresco bar, shelter under a fantastical metal tree or wrap yourself in a fleece blanket and huddle round a fire pit on chilly nights. Summer coolers include kaffirinha and chu-cumber (a shochu and Hendrick’s gin conceit), while Peru (via Honshu) is represented by Pablo Piscobar – pisco, yuzu and ginger bitters on the rocks. Not all drinks are as successful; an old fashioned made with rum, star anise, Bénédictine and tonka beans is one experiment that flops. Classy small plates include miso soup, tempura, Wagyu gyoza, sashimi, sushi and ceviche – if only some of the more boastful City boys out on the lash were as sophisticated.

  1. My first restaurant review in 2014 aptly connects to last year having had to book well more than a month in advance to pick a date that worked for us. After reading quite a few critical reviews on Sushisamba, I feel hesitant to say it, anxious to come across as too simple and naïve in taste but… I must admit I absolutely loved my experience there celebrating a friend’s birthday, easily catapulting it into my Top 5 special occasions restaurants in London. “Fusion cuisine” is a word that usually makes me queazy and I’m especially skeptical of the results when it involves my delicate native Japanese cuisine abused and brutalised for the sake of a modern food experiment. And so I came with more than a healthy amount of bias towards this Peruvian Brazilian Japanese fusion food from across the pond...

  2. SushiSamba has been around for a few years now and opened at the same time as its sister restaurant Duck & Waffle in the Heron Towers. The original feedback was that Duck & Waffle was much better for food and SushiSamba was only really good for drinks and the view. However, recently a new executive chef, Cláudio Cardoso, has been hired to revive SushiSamba’s standing in London’s dining scene…and with great success. We’d never been to SushiSamba before, but based on this visit we can’t say anything other than “WOW”!...

  3. Now there are no surprises as to what you are likely to get at Sushisamba. We’ve all heard about the wave of Peruvian/Japanese/ Brazilian fusion that’s taken our city over by storm, as if we’ve never eaten a plantain chip or consumed raw fish before! Here though, I like the way the menu is laid out and sectioned off by the three thrilling nations involved in this food revolution. So you can easily ensure you get a real taste of it all...

    My Friends Recommend :: Sushisamba

    Following a huge success story in the US dating back to 1999, Sushisamba opened its first international restaurant last year in London’s then newest skyscraper (before the Shard opened its viewing platform in February 2013), Heron Tower, in the City. Located on the 38th and 39th floors, the views from Sushisamba match the food and ambience – utterly spectacular...

    A Table For Two :: SushiSamba

    You’ll see a lot more of London if you simply just look up. You’ll see even more when you look down from SushiSamba. Coming from across the pond SushiSamba boasts a ‘unique blend of Japanese, Brazilian and Peruvian cuisine, music and design’. It’s scrutinous approach to design has cemented SushiSamba as a credible brand with a tried and tested formula...
