Some rosbifs bemoan the Experimental Cocktail Club’s fitfully capricious door policy and apparently smug vibe. In Paris, where the owners run a clutch of beau monde bars, they are big fish in a little pond, but in spoilt-for-choice London any Gallic attitude should be put down to ‘chipped shoulder syndrome’. Forget the posturing and book a table, because it would be madness to miss out on the accomplished mixology on offer at this artfully arranged townhouse. The menu is a labour of love, but typical trademark goodness might include pandanus smash (brandy, pandan leaf, coriander, lime and coconut water) or get the buck in here (Plymouth gin, gentian-flavoured Suze liqueur, absinthe and ginger ale). Figure on £12 per cocktail – or £120-plus, if your taste buds demand vintage spirits in your vintage Negroni.
