It’s said that dogs sometimes look like their owners, but it’s also true that restaurants can resemble their punters. Byron does shabby chic to a T – & thanks to scuffed-up reclaimed floors, exposed bricks & bare light fittings, its young boho crowd are almost part of the furniture. The menu has a similarly pared-back approach, homing in on a handful of simple dishes done well. With no starters – just nibbles of tortilla chips or olives – all eyes are on the mains. Pride of place goes to the humble burger, made daily from top-quality Scotch beef, cooked to perfection & sandwiched in a soft, floury bun; optional toppings are equally straight-talking – think dry-cure bacon, jalapeños, or Monterey Jack. If you’ve got room, add a Caesar salad, skinny fries or creamy macaroni cheese, then close with a decadent knickerbocker glory. Staff are youthful & bubbly.
