The aspirations of this likeable riverside wine bar are finally being met. Once something of a drinking den, it has remodelled itself as a suave ‘wine lounge & events venue’, & a smarter, less rowdy crowd now comes. Over 40 wines are offered by the glass in tip-top condition, from an appealing 100-strong list – although fans of beers, lagers & cocktails aren’t short-changed. Food has been kept simple but classy: share a baked Camembert or a plate of antipasti, or choose simple, well-cooked mains (langoustine with garlic butter & chips, spinach & ricotta ravioli with sage butter). Desserts are dull, but the cheeseboard is a treat. The location is ideal if you want to relax & watch the river traffic, & quiet enough to have a conversation without shouting.
