Square Meal review of The Botanist:

Occupying a prime spot on the corner of Sloane Square, this former boozer has been bought up by the Martin brothers (whose portfolio includes The Gun & The Well) & reborn as a casually elegant dining room & bar. Named in honour of adventuring botanist Sir Hans Sloane, the neutral decor is lifted by wall-hangings inspired by Victorian journals, pressed flowers & pinned insects. The perfectly pitched menu is mostly British with a touch of Gallic ‘ooh la la’. Caramelised scallops on salty caper beurre noisette were matched by apple & potato purée with a sprinkling of sweet raisins, while herb-crusted medallions of lamb were teamed with a cassoulet-filled pastry case & extra jus in a dainty copper pan. For afters, tarte tatin with caramel & clotted cream balanced the bite of cooking apples with the sweet creaminess of its plate-mates. Service is generally cheerful, relaxed & accommodating. An excellent addition to the area.
