It was once a shop, post office & café, now this listed building is Zachary & Diane Addie’s home. Five evenings a week, it also does duty as a neighbourhood restaurant. Diane is an
efficient, friendly presence out front, while Zachary brings serious culinary skills to the table (he learned his trade at the starry Devonshire Arms at Bolton Abbey). To start, spinach &
ricotta tortellini with pine nuts & tarragon sauce vies with confit duck & chorizo salad with beetroot & roasted hazelnuts. Mains might include local lamb rump niçoise with garlicky
crushed potatoes, black olives, quail’s egg & rosemary jus or good old sausage & mash with black pudding & apple sauce. Desserts go for the ‘school dinner with a twist’ approach –
perhaps homemade vanilla rice pudding with butterscotch sauce. The interior features original iron pillars & mammoth beams, while the funky furniture is pure 21st century.
