About

Famed for its fish and chips, Trenchers is traditional seafood restaurant situated near the water’s edge in Whitby. Since opening in 1980, the restaurant has earnt a reputation, not just in the town but across Yorkshire, for its dishes which use fresh local produce, and has remained popular both with locals and tourists alike. Trenchers’ welcoming atmosphere and informed yet relaxed serving make it a brilliant all-day dining destination, while its takeaway service means that you can also enjoy the food in your own home. Catering to all ages, thanks to its children’s menu, Trenchers is a great spot for all occasions, whether you need to grab a quick lunch, or want to book in for a hearty dinner.

Sitting in the heart of the seaside town, Trenchers looks unassuming from the outside with the entrance on one side, and a booth serving fish and chips to-go on the other. The inside of the restaurant has been subtly updated over the years but still has the same traditional feel to it that it had when it first opening in 1980. The light, bright dining room features booth seating and mirrors which open the space out. An open kitchen lies on one side of the room allowing the aroma of fish and chips to fill waft around the tables, while a glistening bar sits are the far end.

When it comes to the food menu at Trenchers  you can expect everything from prawn cocktail, deep-fried scampi & fishcakes to full seafood platters (plus steak pies for carnivores), although the main lure is – naturally – fish and chips. Take your pick from spanking fresh haddock, cod, skate, plaice & more besides, then decide if you want it fried in the lightest of batters, floured, crumbed or poached. There are also plenty of old-fashioned desserts along the lines of raspberry jelly with vanilla ice cream.
