At last Kennington has that most desirable of neighbourhood accessories: its very own gastropub. The White Hart ticks all the right boxes on the looks front: wooden furniture, overhead fans, groovy
light fittings & smiling, trendy staff. However, food quality is variable; in our experience, dinner here is better than lunch. A cracking evening meal began with superb quality fried camembert
accompanied by a clearly homemade cranberry sauce crammed with whole, juicy berries, followed by a beautifully cooked & meltingly tender Welsh Black beef fillet. But we were disheartened to
discover that the lunch menu's speciality pies are not made on the premises, while a salad of crayfish & (tinned) tuna on a pile of frilly leaves did nothing to set our pulses racing. On the
wine front, a concise list has 16 whites & 18 reds which nicely trot the globe, with five of each available by the glass.
