Narrow country lanes wind their way to this sturdy country pub not far from the North Downs Way. Rustic and unpretentious, with stripped oak floors, hops hanging from the ceiling, two warming
wood-burning stoves, church pews and chunky scrubbed tables topped with candles, it offers everything you might expect from a traditional boozer out in the sticks. Locals prop up the bar, knocking
back pints from a regularly changing slate of ales – perhaps Fuller’s London Pride, Old Dairy’s Copper Top or Hop Fuzz Brewery’s Shepway. There’s also a 13% special reserve Kentish cider fermented
and matured in oak whisky casks, and a choice of farm-pressed apple juices too. Local rabbit, smoked bacon and celery pudding is typical of the blackboard menu, and there’s fish and chips to take
away on weekday evenings.
