Square Meal Review of The Three Oaks ?

Bridging the gap between country inn & local restaurant, this substantial brick & timber hostelry is a handy addition to the drinking & dining scene in this gentrified part of the Chilterns. The kitchen sets out to please, & covers all bases from antipasti boards & salads to char-grilled, free-range steaks & veggie pasta dishes. In between, expect the likes of garlic mushrooms on toast, cod fillet with a chorizo & potato cake or confit duck with pea & broad bean risotto, followed by warm chocolate brownie or crème brûlée with raspberry sorbet. Prices are fair & set menus also offer decent value (£15/19 for two/three courses). There’s also plenty of good drinking on the Corney & Barrow wine list (look for Guy de Chassey Champagne, Archaval-Ferrer Malbec, & Michiel Eradus Pinot Noir from New Zealand).
