Situated not far from Castle Donington, this 250-year-old listed building started life as a farrier's (hence the equine name), and the old stables can still be seen in the pub courtyard. Inside
it’s a mix of gentrified elegance and contemporary style, with imposing fireplaces, exposed brickwork and varnished antique tables blending happily with various eclectic collectables. Sandwiches
and snacks (beef bolognese pancakes etc) are served at lunchtime and early evening, but it pays to explore the full menu. Starters might include grilled goats’ cheese with balsamic red onions,
while mains could range from rib-eye of beef with tarragon butter to duck breast with cabbage and bacon. To finish, take the comfort route with treacle and oat tart, bread and butter pudding or
lemon cheesecake. The pub also has its own farm shop and a special chocolate workshop too.
