If you look upwards as you head east down Piccadilly, you can’t fail to spot the magnificent neo-baroque building that houses Le Méridien hotel. Behind its grand columns and tall glass windows is
the Terrace Grill & Bar – a good venue for a proper afternoon tea. Top billing goes to its G&T offer (£32), perfect for footsore shoppers in need of something stronger than a cup of
Camellia sinensis. With a choice of herbal and fruity spirits including Bulldog gin with fresh lychee or Beefeater 24 infused with Japanese green tea, mother’s ruin has never seemed so glamorous.
Alternatively, plump for the classic spread or trade up to the Champagne version (£35); either way, expect dainty sandwiches, homemade scones and assorted pastries. Enjoy it all in the dining room
or the relaxed surrounds of the adjoining lounge.
To this day, Piccadilly is one of the most iconic and sought-after addresses in London.
