Despite its tatty location on Dawes Road, the revamped Salisbury is out to show that there are plenty of punters willing to travel to the nether regions of SW6 for a decent gastropub. Thanks to the
brains behind the Spencer Arms in Putney, this boozer has eschewed the country-pub vibe of nearby competitor the Harwood Arms in favour of electric blue banquettes, mirrored walls & a
minimalist’s touch inside. English tapas is the foodie star, & the menu promises a good-value mix of smaller plates such as foie gras on toast; rabbit fritters with mustard mayo or sweetbreads
with capers & parsley. More orthodox customers can also enjoy a few mains (rump of beef with gnocchi, greens & foie gras, say) at regular gastropub prices. A retracting roof in the dining
room guarantees that the place will come to life in summer.
