Square Meal Review of The Phoenix ?

You might well discover the next Peter Kay at The Phoenix, since it’s new and improved basement now hosts established and rookie comedians: Ed Byrne and Frankie Boyle are just two famous chucklers who have previously appeared at this off-Oxford Street gig. Other draws include retro fun such as Coffin Dodgers Disco, singalongs and DJ sets from vinyl junkies of the calibre of Belle and Sebastian. Popular with office workers and shop assistants, The Phoenix is invariably busy and very noisy – so bark out your order for affordable wines, Camden Hells, Sharp’s Atlantic, Vetlins or Brooklyn Pennant from the line-up of draught brews. Also new to the gaff is a menu of US-style, blue-collar chow – think sliders, dogs, deli sandwiches, burgers, mac ’n’ cheese, brownies and other ‘home-cooked Americana’ courtesy of the Ruby Jean’s Diner chain.
