SquareMeal Review of The Oliver Conquest

‘Pub and gin house’ claims the new signage at this Aldgate tavern. And with beers from Meantime and Harvey’s, plus over 150 big-brand and boutique distillations to choose from, it’s a boast that stacks up. Any self-respecting juniper junkie will be au fait with Bombay Sapphire, Bloom, Beefeater 24, Boodles and Bulldog, but with arcane bathtub gins, pinks, sloes, genevers, bourbon-barrelled Americans, Ophir and a dry, rye reposado variant from St. George lining up for inclusion in martinis, gimlets or negronis, expect to be here for some time! Further reasons to linger come in the shape of cut-price comfort food such as meatballs, pasta, deep-fill sandwiches, casseroles, nachos, chilli con carne, baked Camembert and fiery dogs. A bi-monthly pub quiz and live acoustic sets are also part of the fun at the jolly Olly.
