Square Meal Review of The Lucky Pig ?

As moody, louche and languid as a 1930s Louisiana boudoir on a sultry New Orleans night, this dimly lit Southern Belle is a sensual subterranean spot where fancy fellows come for indecently sexy sips. A smoky soundtrack channels Lady Sings the Blues and various retro chanteuses, soul brothers and jazz strummers regularly perform live while punters discover pitch-perfect old-school mixes and more outré modern creations. Prohibition-era favourites such as White Lady, Sidecar, Dark & Stormy and Bee’s Knees (Tanqueray gin, Champagne, lemon and honey) became classics for good reason, but we wonder whether London cocktail lists will still embrace house ideas such as Peanut Manhattan come 2099. Wines from £20, French bubbles from £50, stone-baked pizzetti, veggie mezze and piggy platters are a plus, while curtained-off alcoves encourage cads to canoodle with loose broads.

The Funky Truth :: Discerning Drinking Ch34: The Lucky Pig

I found myself walking to The Lucky Pig as the sinusitis kicked in, precipitated with a does of orange – yes, ORANGE – goo coming from my nose and fighting the throng of angry commuters pouring from Goodge Street Station, on one of those London nights where it wasn’t quite raining, but if you didn’t have an umbrella you would regret it. I didn’t, and did. It was going to take a special kind of bar to right this perfect storm of wrong.

The ‘Pig is hardly perfect. It’s location, in uncharted Fitzrovia, somewhere grubby, south of the BT Tower – is well off the beaten track, though we stumbled upon Bubbledogs...
