Eating here starts with the marinated whole garlic cloves offered on your table and then descends into a full-on garlic fest – if that’s your thing. One of the country’s premier producers of Allium
sativum (which they’ve even sold to the French), this venue provides information about growing the bulbs, cooking them and taking advantage of garlic’s much-lauded health benefits – as well as
offering a chance to consume the stuff in its friendly dining room. There’s a permanent ‘light bites’ menu, plus an array of daily specials ranging from spiced poached pear salad with warm goats’
cheese and wild rocket or oak-smoked garlic and Isle of Wight cherry tomato risotto to rhubarb, raspberry and coconut tart. And if you’re on the island in the middle of August, don’t miss their
annual Garlic Festival, now one of the country’s major food events.
