Its proximity to Price’s candle factory presumably inspired the name for this welcoming new warehouse-style neighbourhood pub – a boon for Battersea's still largely un-gentrified, backwater High
Street. The jolly interior’s stylistic mishmash incorporates everything from an old suit of armour via 70s suburban kitsch to artwork of Battersea Power Station as a giant birthday cake (its four
chimney stacks imagined as candles, appropriately). Handpumps dispense ales from Redemption, Laine’s and fledgling Essex microbrewery Elephant School alongside continental lagers such as Sagres and
a fair selection of wines, while the menu focuses on comfort food: Scotch eggs, ham hock pie, sausages from Franconian of Southwark, beer-battered fish and chips, pasta, pulled pork and fish-finger
sandwiches, and a pud of the day. Cute ‘outdoor rooms’ will appeal to smokers.

But this weekend Andrew and I decided to take a break from wedding chores, and went out and about in London, have a stroll and do the things we used to enjoy before Weddinggedon took hold of our lives.We ended up in Battersea, which is far from our corner of North London, but one I have spent a bit of time in owing to my older brother living there for a bit years ago.After a brief stroll from Clapham Junction, we ended up at The Candlemaker for lunch....
