About

Thai Square Wig and Pen is temporarily closed and will re-open in autumn 2019

Housed in what is said to be the only building that survived the Great Fire of London, this Thai restaurant serves authentic cuisine in a cosy space that still has all its charming features from the 1600s.

Serving up a feast of curries, stir fries and soups, you won’t ever run out of things to choose from. From fresh and flavourful to warm and hearty, there is something to fit every mood or craving. To kick off your Thai meal, choose from a selection of starters such as Thai dumplings, prawn toast and fish cakes. If you haven’t filled up on starters, try the plar goong – prawns with chilli’s lime and the chef’s special sauce. Or order the western favourite Thai green curry and pick from a selection of rice or noodles.

Although Thai food has connotation of including lots of meat and fish, veggies need not worry – the vegetarian menu is just as varied and equally as tempting as the main menu. Try the corn cakes, vegetable tempura or spring rolls. For mains, sweet and sour beans, tofu with cashew nuts and jungle vegetable curry will fill you up nicely.

Thailand isn’t exactly famous for their desserts, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t good. The kao-neow mamuang – fresh mango with sweet and sticky rice with sesame seeds – sounds different, but certainly has us intrigued. The pandan pancake with coconut filling will tickle your taste buds, or if you want to keep things simple, the selection of ice creams doesn’t disappoint.

Whatever you decide to order from this Thai Square, you can take comfort in knowing that you’ll be getting fresh and tasty food in a cosy, intimate setting. Great for if you are going on a date, with a big group of people or simply just want to experience a piece of Thailand here in London.

Worst Thai meal of my life I am sad to say! Staff were friendly and the place looked ok on the first glance. I had chicken satay for starters and the presentation was lovely but satay sauce had absolutely no flavour? Sweet chillie dipping sauce was extremely salty. My main was a duck with lychee and pineapple in coconut sauce – Duck did not go with the fruity flavours and was very fatty and I was not able to eat it. Corridor down to the toilets and the toilets themselves were dirty to the extreme … black grime even up the walls up to a foot above the skirting and in all corners – I wish I had not seen it! American couple in the next table were equally horrified by the lack of cleanliness of the toilets. Left very quickly after that. Would not recommend to anyone!

I ate here tonight and have to say with the exception of the fishcakes and rice it's probably the worst Thai food I've ever eaten; Although the fishcakes were OK the sauce that accompanied was over sweetened, over salted, overly acidic and inedible The chicken satay was completely tasteless . The Jungle Curry for main was about as Thai as minestroni soup in flavour and my plate was so dirty that I had to send it back and ask for another one. I wish I hadn't used the toilets as they were so filthy, I felt physically ill after seeing them, and the hand dryer was broken. The staff were friendly though but at no point did anyone ask how the food was, I expect they are so used to negative feed-back they have stopped asking customers. By the taste of the food, the chef seems to know less about Thai cooking than your average London bus driver. If you like Thai food you will be very, very disappointed by this restaurant.
