The name may suggest a 60s techno-rock band, but this Tangerine Dream evokes school fêtes of yore with its bunting and long trestle table loaded with cakes and cups – although nothing detracts from
the splendour of its setting in Chelsea’s lush, leafy Physic Garden. The canteen-style kitchen punches well above its weight, with artistically presented seasonal dishes such as rare-roasted beef
with golden and purple beets, fresh horseradish and greens or sun-dried tomato, goats’ cheese and Gruyère tart backed by desserts including summer pudding garnished with edible flowers. Pop in for
a cuppa and some home-baked lavender scones during the afternoon or sit on the large covered terrace and admire the Arcadian horticultural expanses. Note that the café doesn’t have a separate
entrance, so be aware that the Physic Garden charges for visitors.
