Square Meal Review of Sixtyone ?

Set in a prime slice of Marylebone real estate, this slick offering from the Searcy’s group paints an image of modern elegance with its polished wood, long-hanging curtains and arty chandeliers. It’s a good fit for the menu, which has been put together by chef/patron Arnaud Stevens, whose CV stretches from La Tante Claire to Maze Grill. To begin, a teapot filled with powdered porcini is brought to the table and topped with water to create a fungal beverage for sipping while you browse the menu. What follows is quietly experimental without crossing the line – sparky-flavoured octopus carpaccio with sorrel, deep-fried oyster served in the shell with rich chicken pâté, and squab pigeon served with snails and a parsley risotto have all impressed. Desserts might feature a modish combo of chocolate, yuzu and mandarin, while a keenly priced Searcy’s wine list keeps things flowing.

  1. Sixtyone is a good example of a place that wouldn’t really be known to tourists, but yet is a fantastic place just under their nose. Situated on Upper Berkeley Street (at number 61, hence the name), it’s a short stroll from Marble Arch tube – but this short stroll immediately takes you away from the hustle and bustle of the shops.

    It’s a small restaurant – only 61 covers (although, it seems like more once you’re inside). The midweek menu offers extremely good value for money: 2 courses for £19. Book via a website and you’ll score yourself a glass of bubbles into the bargain. On paper, this is a huge winner....

  1. Who knew that only a short few minutes walk from the grotty site around Marble Arch Station, adjacent to Oxford Street - a charming hotel and restaurant exist. A tranquil haven away from the swarms of shoppers and also just as convenient for a spot of pre-shopping.

    Although it’s not immediately apparent, Sixtyone restaurant is located in the ground floor of the Montcalm Hotel. In conjunction with luxury company Searcys, everyone involved has done a great job decorating, with mid-tones of greys and striking copper - it all feels very ‘in’ right now, and so does the food.     Wrap Your Lips Around This :: Sixty One

    Sixty One is a new venture from the people behind Searcy’s private dining restaurant in The Gherkin. It is located in an intimate, boutique hotel (read: small and unheard of) just past Marble Arch. The dullness of this restaurants name and hotel setting means that booking a table is unnervingly easy. As the meal commences, however, it is clear that the emptiness of the place is no indication of its talent.

    Samphire and Salsify :: Sixty One

    Sixty One is the latest restaurant from the Searcys group (they run the restaurant at the top of the Gherkin) and it’s based inside an unassuming looking hotel near Marble Arch, called the Montcalm.
