About

The Royal Court is a lively meeting place for audiences, writers, directors and actors. The facilities occupy the nineteenth century auditorium 'pit', the original vaults under the pavement, and a completely new spacious hall built underneath Sloane Square. High vaulted ceilings with natural light pouring in through glass pavement blocks make a dramatic addition to the original theatre's cramped public spaces. Our menus are representative of the best of British cooking and focus on the exciting and innovative use of fresh produce, quality meats and cheeses and traditional home baking. We have sourced fantastic foods from award winning suppliers; cured meats, cheeses, oils and olives from Brindisa Spanish Foods, with shops at Exmouth and Borough Markets, Neals Yard Dairies provide an endless supply of cheeses for our seasonal cheese plates. Our comprehensive wine list has been selected from London wine merchants Bibendum and includes Organic wines, Prosecco and Champagne.

Great pre-theatre meal
I was a bit nervous about booking here as often in-house dining is a bit of a rip off – but not this. Great atmosphere, brilliant service, delicious food. It was pouring with rain so we were so please not to have to get drenched walking to the theatre. Will go again.

Better than expected
I arrived in a bit of a huff expecting to see a place packed with people, rows of tables with arrogant, rushed waiters and waitresses dutifully delivering orders timed to arrive before show time. Instead I saw an inviting space, wide open, clean and relaxed, ready to receive and serve guests. The decor was simple but elegant, friendly, attentive staff, but not overly so. I was meeting a man here; with more than a hint of romance, we were going to the theatre and I chose the venue for lunch. It seemed easy enough as it was in the same building. Did I make enough of an effort? I could not have chosen better! The main courses were tasty, the fish en papillote was delicately, appetisingly served, the gnocchi a theatrical display of colour and taste. I had indeed chosen wisely. I highly recommend the Royal Court Theatre restaurant even if you're not going there to see any plays. One comment, although the scallops I'd ordered as a starter were absolutely perfectly cooked, which is not as easy as some may think, why did the same dish served to the lady on the adjacent table contain scallops that were no less than twice the size of mine? I'm not normally fussy with portions but it was hard to ignore. I'd go there again and I would mention the inequality. Apart from this stark difference between my food and hers, this was a wonderful experience and a favour to my yearning senses.
