Until the end of 2013, the ground-floor restaurant at Mark Fuller’s emblematic Embassy will be home to Retro Feasts – a playful pop-up fronted by precocious 19-year-old chef Luke Thomas, who also
cooks at Luke’s Dining Room in Berkshire. The revamped interior looks like a cross between an art student’s installation and the
remnants of a jubilee street party with Union Jacks, collages, wedding photos, table footie and the word ‘WOW’ writ in large letters. Cheese balls and pineapple chunks on sticks set the tone for a
rolling menu that puts its thumb into the world of foodie nostalgia and pulls out bowls of cream of tomato soup, tinned tuna salad topped with seared tuna, Scotch eggs with potted ham and peas,
potato dumplings and more besides. Afterwards, punters are encouraged to dance the night away with the party crowd in Embassy’s throbbing basement club.
So why my concern over all things retro? Well if Wiki is to be believed then Chef Luke Thomas (born October 1993) is only just old enough to be considered retro! The 19-year-old chef who caused quite a stir on the BBC3 show ‘Britain’s youngest head chef‘ has once again paired up with self-styled rock & roll hotelier Mark Fuller.The first time they hooked up was at the Sanctum on The Green Hotel where Luke’s Dining Room takes pride of place.
