Glasgow chef John Quigley travelled the world cooking for rock stars such as Bryan Adams and Tina Turner, before setting up the Red Onion in 2005. Since then, this big-city bistro has become
something of a hot ticket in its own right, thanks to good vibrations, satisfying, great-value food, bold flavours and globally inspired ideas. Just about anything goes on a menu that might run
from bang-bang chicken or crispy goats’ cheese with marinated beetroot salad and walnut dressing to affogato or hot Kirsch cherries with ice cream and chocolate sauce. In between, take your pick
from monkfish and pea korma, smoked haddock fishcakes or five-spice honey-roast duck breast with caramelised sweet potato, pak choi and shiitake mushroom jus. The Red Onion also does a good line in
gluten-free dishes, pre-theatre deals and child-friendly offerings.
