Squaremeal Review of Old Crown Pub ?

Walking into the this village pub on the northern edge of the Lakes, just beneath the Caldbeck Fells, you might think it was simply a regular boozer serving some cracking good ale, but the snaps of Prince Charles with a pint of Doris’s 90th suggest there might be more to it. In 2003, when the locals feared their watering hole would be sold off to one of the big-name chains, they clubbed together & bought it – making the Old Crown the first co-operatively owned pub in the country. Now it has its own microbrewery & received HRH’s blessing when he visited as part of his ‘Pub’s the Hub’ campaign. They now serve six home-brewed ales, along with a daily menu of pub classics such as steak & ale pie, haddock & chips or gammon & pineapple.
