Ladies in red should blend in nicely at the DoubleTree by Hilton’s first-floor cocktail hangout, with its funky scarlet tones, crimson couches and shiny, neon-lit bar. The stylish Millbank Lounge also brings a much-needed shot of glamour to a part of town dominated by government departments – not that the pen pushers are averse to downing a few cocktails after work, especially when the list of enticing signature drinks includes watermelon martinis, raspberry mules and a British-style mojito made with gin, apple juice, elderflower, lime and mint. Meanwhile, senior Whitehall mandarins are more likely to be interested in the excellent whisky list and its enticing five-brand ‘flights’. Platters, sandwiches and burgers keep drinkers on an even keel, while Wi-Fi and cracking afternoon teas are the main daytime attractions.
