Square Meal Review of Megaro CLOSED ?

It’s worth negotiating Euston Road’s thunderous traffic for this appealing dive, set slightly adrift from the main King’s Cross action. Located beneath the Karpo brasserie and done out like a racy glamour photographer’s darkroom circa 1955, Megaro’s model cocktails are provocative sips: savour Monroe 351 (a vodka, amontillado and Perrier-Jouët sparkler), Borsh Mary or Dolma Sour (‘grapevine-infused’ Leblon cachaça, lime and absinthe). There’s also a case to be made for Perry Mason & The Perjured Parrot (Dolma bourbon and perry sidekick), not to mention Fisherman’s Martini served in a ring-pull tuna can. Seafood bites include sole goujons with tartare sauce, otherwise snack on the likes of wild garlic and nettle bruschetta or buffalo mozzarella and pesto on sourdough before sweetening proceedings with a cheeky pud such as chocolate cremosa and popcorn powder.
