The name means ‘marble’ in Latin, and this stylish brasserie on the first floor of the Thistle Marble Arch Hotel evokes the art-deco 1930s with its curvaceous lines, glamorous textiles, beige leather booths, uplighters and period mirrors. The interior may hark back to another age, but the food strikes a more modern note – from goats’ cheese with pickled beetroot to cardamom and orange crème brûlée. In between, the kitchen aims to please allcomers with headlining Josper grills – think dry-aged steaks, free-range Blythburgh pork or whole sea bass with fennel and lime, all pimped up with sauces and sides. With extras such as hotel breakfasts, a Sunday carvery and afternoon tea, it’s no wonder the place is tourist-friendly. And if you fancy a nostalgic finale, why not try a nightcap in the Glenn Miller Bar?
