Away from the bustle of London Bridge, and without the riverside allure of some of its neighbours, this unshowy restaurant is nonetheless well worth seeking out. Bentwood chairs, burgundy walls and
polished wooden floors provide an understated backdrop for some ‘highly accomplished’, confident and relaxed cooking that allows seasonal produce to shine. Traditional British flavours meet ‘nose
to tail’ French technique on a daily menu of dishes with vintage depth – from a starter of ham hock, Jersey royals and soft-boiled egg to a generous plate of baked rabbit leg with barley, bacon and
nettles. After that, try prune and almond tart or choose from a carefully curated selection of Anglo-French cheeses. Staff are welcoming, the ‘really interesting’ wine list includes plenty of
inviting carafes, and the set lunch is another good reason to visit.

She was in town for work, and we planned dinner nearby her office, as sadly she had to go back to work afterwards. I am not an expert on the Tower Bridge area, so I was excited to explore. I actually wanted to go back to Zucca where I had such a great meal before, but they are closed on Mondays. She suggested Magdalen, as she had heard good things and had not as yet tried it.The vibe is quiet and has touches of French bistro...
