There was always something wonderfully sleek about the original Butlers Wharf restaurant and, not to be outshone, it’s undergone a refurbishment to bring it bang up to date. Head chef Frederick Forster is at the helm; an ex-Roux scholar (he’s worked at Le Gavroche, Le Manoir, the Ritz and Pierre Gagnaire), diners can expect impeccable technique and a lightness of touch. So roasted Orkney scallops are offset by violet artichokes, while an earthy dish of golden beetroot, turnip and wild wood sorrel is cut through by sweet pears , with cobnuts adding texture. The wine list has some big hitters, and to celebrate the reopening they’re listing some of the best known names at Le Pont’s original 1991 prices. The smart on the money should book their tables now.

Pinot Noir tasting and Tom Cook’s ravishing Ravioli at Le Pont De La TourI’m something of an old hand when it comes to wine tastings, spending many a tipsy evening with hubby dearest at the charming and dangerously local Le Pont Wine Shop. Though I should note I shan’t be attending another Austrian night. As much as I love my Gruner V, I simply cannot drink wine whilst...

Literally translated as Tower Bridge, the name of this fantastic French restaurant gives its location away. Situated right next to its namesake, with outside tables almost up to the river's edge and in a prime location for people watching, this is a stunning venue worth booking for the views and setting alone. The food is another reason to visit however. Being French, you can expect a certain standard, (is there a bad French restaurant?) and it certainly does not disappoint. The starters include steak tartare, Hors d’oeuvre maison (a trio of mini fish dishes including smoked salmon blini, lobster salad, and...

Hello folks! What a fabulously summery week we are having, there was sun and now there is cloud – just the type of summer we Brits are accustomed to. I just hope the usual rain finale can hold off. It’s been an interesting start to May, what with an indulgent and celebratory trip to New York (goss on that coming soon) which left me feeling ten years younger in many ways, but also around the fast-approaching third decade, as far as putting life into perspective is concerned. In between the marathon tasting menus and liquid merriment, I figured out a little of what turning 30 means to me...
