CLOSED FOR MAJOR REFURBISHMENT. DUE TO REOPEN LATE SEPTEMBER 2015
No part of Le Pont has moved with the times, but that’s exactly the point. Occupying a 19th-century former tea warehouse, this grand, unmistakably French restaurant – born of Conran in the 1990s, now owned by D&D – wears sophisticated art-deco attire and offers sublime views of Tower Bridge. If weather allows, the only place better than a window seat is the riverside terrace, where fruits de mer from the seafood bar feels particularly appropriate. Otherwise, classical Gallic cuisine holds sway. Fluffy, delicate Dover sole meunière is a lesson in elegance, while tender shoulder of lamb in rich broth is an altogether gutsier affair. Finish with crème brûlée: a crisp-topped wibbly-wobbly picture of perfection. “Impeccable service”
from smartly dressed waiters, a hefty tome of wines (both well-priced and aspirational) and “great ambience” boosted by a pianist in the lively Bar & Grill next door, complete what is
a seriously luxurious proposition.
Pinot Noir tasting and Tom Cook’s ravishing Ravioli at Le Pont De La TourI’m something of an old hand when it comes to wine tastings, spending many a tipsy evening with hubby dearest at the charming and dangerously local Le Pont Wine Shop. Though I should note I shan’t be attending another Austrian night. As much as I love my Gruner V, I simply cannot drink wine whilst...

Literally translated as Tower Bridge, the name of this fantastic French restaurant gives its location away. Situated right next to its namesake, with outside tables almost up to the river's edge and in a prime location for people watching, this is a stunning venue worth booking for the views and setting alone. The food is another reason to visit however. Being French, you can expect a certain standard, (is there a bad French restaurant?) and it certainly does not disappoint. The starters include steak tartare, Hors d’oeuvre maison (a trio of mini fish dishes including smoked salmon blini, lobster salad, and...

Hello folks! What a fabulously summery week we are having, there was sun and now there is cloud – just the type of summer we Brits are accustomed to. I just hope the usual rain finale can hold off. It’s been an interesting start to May, what with an indulgent and celebratory trip to New York (goss on that coming soon) which left me feeling ten years younger in many ways, but also around the fast-approaching third decade, as far as putting life into perspective is concerned. In between the marathon tasting menus and liquid merriment, I figured out a little of what turning 30 means to me...
