Squaremeal Review of L'Eglise ?

L'Eglise closed on 06/16

This amicable neighbourhood bistro has flown the ‘tricolore’ for French food for many years, keeping the denizens of Hove happy with steak and moules-frites. New owners Alistair Doyle, the former head chef of The Jolly Sportsman, and experienced restaurant manager Andy Tinker-Taylor have wisely resisted the urge to mess with a winning formula, tweaking the menu only slightly. There are still plenty of French classics, from escargots to chicken supreme, but spiced yellow-lentil fritters, and spring vegetable risotto with pea shoot and radish salad have a more international feel. The wine list continues to display a strong French accent, but you’ll now also find a few interlopers from both Old World and New, including a nice selection of Sussex sparklers. Service is warm and welcoming, with guests shown to closely packed tables illuminated by retro globe-shaped lights.
