“I love all the history and the fantastic atmosphere” chimed one fan who was bowled over by velvet banquettes, crystal chandeliers and mosaic floors of this glamorously refurbished Soho “treasure”. The mood is convincingly special and the brasserie generally delivers satisfying food backed by welcoming, helpful service. Pre-theatre deals are always a popular shout, while the carte promises easy comfort in the shape of lobster bisque with lobster ravioli or baked goats’ cheese with beetroot marmalade followed by Toulouse sausages and mash, harissa-glazed saddle of lamb with crispy polenta or fishcakes with pea purée and brown shrimp butter – not forgetting high-calorie treats from the vast pudding menu. The whole package also embraces a dedicated Champagne Bar, breakfast, afternoon tea, Sunday lunch with a live pianist and “some of the best private dining rooms in London”.
Kia Ora guys. I’m (Andy) back from the land of the long white cloud, and needless to say I am ravenous. I have to give honorary mention to Fergburger in Queenstown, everyone knows about it, but that’s a damn fine burger!Kettners was next on our list, a couple of our mates had told us it was pretty decent, so let’s see if they have a f***ing clue what they’re talking about. I don’t think I’ve ever eaten a burger with a background pianist. Classaffair...

We have been meaning to go to Kettners for a long time now; for dinner and even more so for the ‘Herr Kettner’s’ 1940’s Berlin inspired nights. We had finally got round to going for lunch with a couple of friends. Situated on a corner of Soho this restaurant was originally a series of four Georgian town houses, Kettner’s was popular with Oscar Wilde, Edward VII, Lillie Langtry, Agatha Christie and Bing Crosby. We walked in the bright glamorous hall way and gave our names for a booking; I suddenly remembered that I had forgot to book! Playing it cool I said that I had done it online (which I had tried in my...

Kettners, Romilly Street – you would not miss it in the dark rainy afternoons of London – Kettners, spelt vertically downwards, lit in blue signage takes height above the rest of the other restaurants and cafés on Romilly Street. More popularly known amongst people as just off Cambridge Circus, Kettners is a corner building painted in clean white paint with black trimmed edges and corners gives a colonial look from the Malayan days. However...

Kettner’s really should be the perfect place to have afternoon tea. It’s right in the heart of Soho, it’s been around for almost 150 years and the current owners have spent a packet on making sure it exudes glitz and glamour. This was my second visit (the first was for dinner a couple of years ago) and on both occasions I was enticed by cut-price offers. This time, it was my sister’s birthday so I thought it would be a great opportunity to take advantage of the Champagne afternoon tea deal from Time Out. After all, who doesn’t love a bit of tea, cake and fizz? There were a lot of birthday celebrations going...

After sixteen days in Asia we came back craving something other than dim sum, noodles and sushi so went for dinner at one of my favourite restaurants, Kettner's. The Soho institution is housed in four Grade II listed Georgian townhouses and originally opened in 1867 by Napoleon III's chef Auguste Kettner, attracting celebrated regulars like King Edward VII, Oscar Wilde, Agathe Christie and Bing Crosby over the years...
