SquareMeal Review of Kelvingrove Café

Originally founded in 1896, but resurrected for the 21st century, the new-look Kelvingrove Café has retained its original sign and shabby frontage, although the interior has been given a cool facelift involving a gleaming brass bar, chesterfield booths and monochrome floor tiles – a nod to the venue’s original incarnation. The menu offers an on-trend mix of ‘bites’ with global overtones – think roast bone marrow on sourdough toast, fish tacos with sour cream, mac ‘n’ cheese and Old Bay lobster rolls, plus sliders, ‘KC’ fish suppers and roasted chicken with chorizo succotash. Drinks reference ideas and techniques and ideas from the 1930s – check out the old copper sinks and special saws used for slicing up blocks of ice. Beers range from Samuel Adams to Asahi and Oranjeboom, wines straddle the globe and there’s a fine stock of whiskies too.
