Our ladies lunch would be at Kaspar's, The Savoy's gorgeous art deco seafood restaurant.It's all mirrors, glass and twinkles, with a gorgeous marble floor and a silver ceiling. You definitely know you're in one of London's five star plus hotels. The Savoy is old-fashioned glamour at its best; a string of pearls, a flapper dress and a cloche hat and I could be transported back to the roaring twenties...Poor Caroline had transport problems but in this gorgeous setting with champagne and fresh bread I definitely didn't mind waiting!...

The most recent restaurant opening at the refurbished Savoy Hotel was named after the hotel’s 3 foot high feline sculpture, Kaspar, in a nice nod to the hotel’s history (and the fishy focus of Kaspar’s menu.) Occupying the space that was formerly home to the River Restaurant, the restaurant is split into a large bar and grill area, and a smaller restaurant area, with large windows providing panoramic views over the Thames. The look of the place is glitzy brasserie style, with a touch of the theatrical (in keeping with the hotel’s neighbourhood.)...

Looking for a nice lunch in London last week I was intrigued to try Kaspar's, the new seafood restaurant at the Savoy Hotel. I might have been put off initially by the scathing reviews published by Marina O'Loughlin (Guardian, 01/06/13) and Tracey Macleod (Independent 25/5/13). However, I have learnt all to well over the years that reviews, good and bad, are written for a variety of reasons many of which have little to do with food.
