SquareMeal Review of Janet's

Bronze Award

They don’t make ‘em like Janet any more. This blonde New York ex-lawyer has owned her eccentric bar since 1997, creating a buzz through Facebook and her own feisty personality. The interior defies description, an art installation rather than considered design with shocking pink walls, myriad mementoes, newspaper cuttings, balloons, flags, fairy lights, gold dancing shoes and an F1 racing driver’s suit, plus a terrace for smoking and people-watching. Loud, funky music is masterminded by Janet and her student daughter, while the Hungarian head honcho serves up a mean Manhattan, hot toddies in winter and ‘house jugs’ of gin, sloe gin, cider and fresh fruit come summer. It’s defiantly non-ageist and in a city of slick cocktail bars, it’s a breath of fresh air.

Beware ofJanet Kanarek Kollex Evans the barmaid

Janet Kanarek Kollex Evans was convicted for watering down all her drinks.
I visited Janet's Bar on 31 Feb 2020 to celebrate leaving the EU.
After 11.00pm I ordered a bottle of white California wine for £30.
I was forced to pay before the bottle was opened. I heard the click of the cap giving way so knew it was not adulterated with water.
The new barman didn't know I was a regular over the past 30 years.
He put the opened bottle back in the fridge and took out a similar bottle.
This time when he unscrewed the top, it opened without any effort or click.
I rejected it.
I complained.
Janet refused to refund me my £30.
She asked me to leave as she was caught out and alleged she was selling watered down drinks still. I agreed but she demanded I agree never to return.
Just as I reached the door and said my goodbye I was apprehended by a barman, who stopped me walking out the door, by holding both arms.
I objected to being assaulted but he still wouldn't let me go.
I don't know what he intended to do.
He was a 6'6" 30yo. I am a frail 5'9" 78yo.
Janet visits Israel. Her name's are Jewish.

This was racially and religiously agrivated common assault facing her with 2 years imprisonment. She is a local counsellor.
Be ware.
Be warned.

I intend to write what might be called a rave review for Janet's Bar. It is, without a doubt, my favourite place in London. It has a quirky, authentic all-American vibe, from it's quirky interior decor to it's personalised menus to the owner herself, a New Yorker with an infectious laugh and ready smile. The atmosphere is laid-back and friendly, the bar filled from wall to wall with relaxed, stylish clientele. The staff are waiting on hand to take your order and deliver your drinks promtly, so there is no hanging around and no frustration on your part. Janet may also come into the bar and take your order herself. She'll be eager to make your acquaintance and chat to you; If she knows you, she will call you by name and make you feel instantly at home again. The drinks themselves are worth the prices, which are good when you bear in mind that the bar is located right at the heart of London's most upmarket area. There's an extensive list, so whether you feel like a delicious cocktail, a cold beer, a bottle of wine or champagne, whiskey, or a soft drink, there will be something to your liking. Furthermore, there's live music, which is hard to come by in good London bars these days, playing at a reasonable decibel level so you don't have to shout to make yourself heard! The musician is incredibly talented and his songs really add to the vibrant atmosphere. While other venues in the area shut their doors before midnight, Janet's stays open so it's the perfect place to spend your evening. You can sit at the bar, at a table indoors, or out on the terrace and breathe in the city while you have a drink. I recommend taking friends there for a good catch up or going to have some drinks before a night out on the town. It's also a lovely place to wind down after work. You might also be offered a complementary snack, which is always a treat! Janet's Bar is such a gem, really. It's no surprise that Janet has so many loyal regulars and a dedicated bar staff. I highly recommend it. Like me, once you've experienced it you'll keep going back.

My friends and I absolutely LOVE Janet's Bar. We've been going there weekly ever since we discovered this amazing little gem at the hub of South Ken. I highly recommend it! The atmosphere is lively, vibrant and welcoming, just like the owner herself. Janet knows all her regulars by name and is always ready to acquaint herself with new faces. The interior is unpretentious and fun- from the personalised menus to the photographs of well-dressed customers papering the walls, it's clear that this is a bar that doesn't take itself too seriously. There's live music every night, as three different musicians play popular covers to the buzzing crowd. When it comes to drinks, you're spoilt for choice. You only have to glance at the colourful bottles of different liquors and spirits lining the shelves behind the bar to know that the cocktail list will be exciting and extensive. Alongside the cocktail list there is a selection of wines (including Janet's house white) and champagne by the bottle or flute. All drinks are well worth the price tag, and considering the location, they are all great value. The bar also serves food- complementary hot dogs, PB and J sandwiches, nuts and popcorn. As for the clientele, stylish young people rub shoulders with professionals sharing after-work drinks. Whether you choose to sit on the favoured terrace outside or remain in the bar, you'll never have to wait to be served. Janet's Bar has recently become the preferred haunt of fashionable young people who want a place to have a few drinks before they go to Boujis (the nightclub across the road, favourite of Prince Harry and the like!) She's started some great new deals that my friends and I always take advantage of- yummy vodka and fruit liquor shooters for £3. One of the best things about the bar is that it's open until half 2 in the morning, which is long after all the other bars in the area close. It's full up at nighttime, but also enjoyable during the day. If you want to pop in during the afternoon you can get a coffee and muffin combo for £2.50. Overall, the service is brilliant, the ambience laid-back and fun, and the drinks delicious. You're guaranteed a great night. If the sheer number of loyal fans Janet's Bar (us included) is anything to go by, it's a bar that's unparalleled in its popularity and ability to guarantee an incredible night.
