It’s currently a charming pop-up, but (hopefully) discussions with the landlords will allow the current lessees of this former hardware store to nail a permanent residency. Well-worn wooden display
cases, random junkyard tat, furniture seemingly rescued from a skip, and the original shop counter doing duty as a bar – here’s cocktail hour as imagined by a rag-and-bone man, set in a series of
musty old store cupboards and stockrooms that have the whiff of Albert Steptoe about them. There are no Screwdrivers on the cocktail list, but you can get hammered on Hiver honey beer, Beavertown
Gamma Ray and Black Betty ales – or rummage through the wine list for a biodynamic ‘orange’ tipple from Bodegas Bernabe in Navarre. Bar bites include pork pie with piccalilli, charcuterie and
seafood boards, sandwiches and sardines on toast.
