Square Meal Review of Goodman ?

From the leather-wrapped front door handles to the peek-a-boo views of raw beef at the back, Goodman is unmistakably – and unashamedly – a place for those who “crave meat”. The darkly sexy decor can seem gloomy by day, but for most visitors there’s nothing sombre about the experience: “It’s a steakhouse the way a steakhouse should be,” says one reader, “like entering a club without the nonsense of a club.” Get into the spirit with pan-fried foie gras with orange purée, or king prawns nicely grilled on the Josper, before contemplating the esteemed but pricey beef: 150-day aged, corn-fed USDA Angus porterhouse, T-bone or sirloin priced by weight; Irish or Scottish grass-fed fillet with béarnaise; or perhaps the 300g USDA Wagyu for a cool £60. Wines include some fine Burgundies by the glass and a long line-up of upmarket Californians at suitably elevated prices. “Attentive and friendly” service ices the cake.

Many friendships and relationships have been sorely tested with one camp pledging alliance to Goodman and the other to Hawksmoor. “Make love not war”, I say and “The more the better”!     Goodman City has been open now for about 2 years. Since then other competition has opened, Hawksmoor, JW Steakhouse and even Wolfgang Puck’s own ‘The Cut’ has filled out London’s steakhouse scene. The reason I come back to Goodman City is consistency. I have been there now over 6 times. Each time I would get the porterhouse. One day I will try something else, till then it is the porterhouse. The porterhouse is a cut of steak that has sirloin and fillet. It’s is really my favourite cut because it has those two cuts of meat along with the bone and some nice pieces of fat...

    Samphire and Salsify :: Goodman, Mayfair

    I’ve heard from many a trusted source that Goodman is arguably London’s finest steakhouse, yet I’d never actually been. Seeing as my parents were down in London for the weekend, I decided to rectify that and booked us in for a bit of beef at their Mayfair restaurant (there’s also a Goodman in Canary Wharf and The City).

    The restaurant had the perfect atmosphere; loud and lively yet not overbearing, meaning you could actually hear each other talk. We were seated at a table near the bar which added to the buzzy vibe. The leather chairs were particularly comfortable too; I would have gladly spent all night sitting...

    Munch My Way :: Goodman, City

    I love protein and when I crave for it steak is the way to go. Goodman is one I constantly here about that boast meats from the US. Steaks in London are also a competitive category with Hawksmoor, Gaucho, CUT at 45 etc.. Requires Goodman to out perform...
