Square Meal Review of Gatti's ?

Entering this unassuming Italian is like returning to the 1990s, so it’s a testament to the food and staff that City diners keep returning for more. Busy carpets, paper-encased bread sticks and Glacier mints in wicker baskets stubbornly disregard the shifting fashions of this ever-changing neighbourhood, but warm, “very Italian” welcomes and “proper old-school helpings” prove that beauty is in the eye of the eater. The cooking is consistently praised, with the kitchen providing the likes of lobster linguine, a correctly grilled calf’s liver with bacon, or grilled Dover sole, by way of prosciutto with melon or an appetising seafood medley. Reckon on various daily specials, a dessert trolley, a wine list of Italian classics and a possible revamp in 2015. Despite new competition from Broadgate Circle’s redevelopment and the likes of L’Anima, we’d expect Gatti’s to stays true to the tried-and-tested formula that has served it well.
